Recreational Thugs are proud to announce our brand new annual outdoor party – RECREATIONAL THUGS SUMMER BREAK…On SUNDAY 27TH JANUARY 2013 (Australia Day Long Weekend), we’ll be bringing the absolute juiciest beats and summer vibes to Royal Park (situated in a temporary venue around the Launceston Rugby Club) with special guests M-Phazes (Obese Records), Airwolf (Sweat It Out!), Dizz1 (Roots Manuva/Sa-Ra), Alta and more. Inspired by West Coast parties in the US such as the backyard bbq-style Do-Over parties and Mad Decent Block Party, our number one priority is to provide one of the most unique and exciting outdoor Sunday DJ parties Launceston has to offer, fully equipped with tacos, sangria, feel-good electronic music and good old fashioned summer vibes. Drop November w/ Acumen & Benny Bonsai

2012 has been a big year for Drop – we’ve hosted parties for the fastest rising names in the underground Australian dubstep scene, including Filth Collins (Dub Police/MoS), Hydraulix, and A13 (Heavy Innit) to name a few, along with our first international act Cottonmouth (UK). Drop December is our last party for 2012, and we won’t be back until February 6th, so we’re ready to send the year off with a BANG on December 5th at Alchemy, with the return of Hobart’s mash-up A/V kings ACUMEN for a spectacular audi
o/visual set.

ACUMEN are Tasmania’s leading DJ / VJ combination. Combining the turntable skills that have elevated Dameza to a national favorite and the mind blowing digital art skills of VJ Sloth has seen them quickly rise to the upper echelons of the Tasmanian live music. Their diverse no-holds-barred genre mash-up style has seen them support a myriad of national and international acts including Grand Master Flash [USA] DJ Z-Trip [USA], Reso [UK], Sukh Knight [UK] Pendulum, The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Spoonbill, Dexter, The Scientists Of Modern Music, DJ Flagrant and countless others, winning over the hearts and minds of eager audiences everywhere.

Also returning to the Drop spotlight is an absolute beast on the decks, and one of our personal favorites – BENNY BONSAI, along with resident PLASTIQUE MERCHANT (aka AKOUO).

Drop November w/ Filth Collins (Dub Police/MoS)

Who was lucky enough to catch Sydney producer FILTH COLLINS’ set at Fresh last year? It was a cacophony of massive grime sounds and excessive wobble from one of the countries biggest producer DJ exports. And to celebrate his recent signing to one of UK’s finest record labels Dub Police (home to artists like Caspa, Trolley Snatcha and Emalkay) and his track Badboy Riddim being featured on Ministry of Sound’s ‘The Sound of Dubstep 5′ compilation – we’re bringing our homie back to Tassie for an exclusive show
at Drop November.

With releases already out on One Love/Sony, Dub Police, and Analogic Records, this man is the one of the hottest things on Australian grime/dubstep. After Aria chart success with his remix of ‘Too Fresh – Hotel Party’ and dropping remixes for artists like M-Phazes and Rod Azlan – Sydney’s FILTH COLLINS is about set to take over the world, and we’re bringing him down for a FREE SHOW at Drop on the 7th of November.

Spinning alongside FILTH COLLINS will be local tastemaker MISTER and ofcourse resident DJ AKOUO will be closing the night.

Drop October w/ Hydraulix

Alright guys, so we’re late on the promo for October’s Drop, but trust us, it’s worth the wait. After a few hick ups booked in something super special for you. One of Sydney’s freshest drumstep/dubstep DJ/producers HYDRAULIX is heading our way to blow your faces off like the hadron collider.

HYDRAULIX! This Sydney dj/producer is a genetically and mechanically engineered bass beast. Part man, part machine and 100% filth. After being exposed to heavy music several years ago via ‘Rusko – Pro Nails’, there was

no turning back and this mutant miscreation known as Hydraulix was born. Ever since then the name Hydraulix has been spreading through the bass scene like a virus in Australia and internationally.

Joining our guest this month is two of our local gems in a back-to-back bass massacre, THATGUY vs MUFASA. Plus resident DJ AKOUO will be closing the night as per usual.

Drop (September) w/ A13

One of our favorite guest DJs over the past 16 months and one of Melburn city’s freshest bass kings A13 is back with a massive stack of rhythms, ready to wreck havoc on Drop @ Alchemy, Launceston once more!

With over 10 years of DJ experience under his belt, including DJing for The Redeyes and co-running Heavy Innit in Melbourne, A13 has helped to introduce the electronic bass music and future beat sound to Australia. This lad has played at more music festivals than most people have attended, including Par
k Life, Shine On, Stereosonic, Summer Dayze, and Woodford Folk Festival. On top of that, he’s played alongside names like Digital Mystikz (UK), Dj Krush (JPN), The Nextmen (UK), Skream & Benga (UK), Swindle (UK) and the list goes on…

Resident host Akouo will be joining our interstate com-padre and opening the evening with that nasty old grime, dub and thugstep to lull you into a false sense of security before A13 bakes your brain and makes you forget math.

Drop (August) w/ Benny Bonsai

Big ups Drop massive, the stellar vibes and bad ass bass are just around the corner again. And at Drop August we’re speeding things up a little with our special guest, A-grade DnB/dubstep distributor BENNY BONSAI!

For years, BONSAI has been creating bassline tsunamis on dancefloors across Australia with his monster selection of technical drum & bass, jungle and heavyweight breakbeats. Bonsai has performed alongside all of the world’s dnb, dubstep and drumstep heavyweights, including Noisia, Mickey Finn, Aphrodite, Xample & Lomax, Phace, Ed Rush & Optical, Pendulum, ShockOne, Drumsound & Bassline, Concord Dawn, Bulletproof, Chris Su, Mayhem, Opiuo, the list goes on…this month he’ll be bringing it home to show us a thing or two about what he’s learnt on his travels.

Local all rounder DJ CHARLY VENN will be cookin’ those sizzling, bass tunes from 10pm to sooth your appetite, ready for an epic Bonsai feast.

Drop July w/ SpinFX & Akouo

Reeeewind selectah!!! we’re midway through the year, it’s cold as hell but our philosophy is simple – the best way to shake off that Tassie chill is to get busy on the dance floor to some heavy arse bass and dirty old dubstep quakers. And this month, a good mate of ours is making a special trip down from the mainland to unfreeze those joints!

From the mid 90s, big homie SPINFX trotted the globe from Aus to London and New York, making his bones in the breaks and dnb scenes, collecting the finest tunes and bringing them back home again to leave club goers all around Australia spasming uncontrollably on the dance floor. Having played alongside countless legends like Stanton Warriors, Krafty Kuts, Freq Nasty, LTJ Bukem, Tipper and a pretty much everyone else you could possibly think of, this learned nomad now resides in Melbourne town, spinning his weave of delicious riddims regularly at parties like Heavy Innit and 50/50. In plain english, you NEED to see this man get down on the platters!

Joining SPINFX on the evening will be resident sound system overlord AKOUO (not a bad introduction, even if he did write it himself) spinnin’ dem badman riddims from 10pm, BLOAH!

Drop #13 w/ Baron Von Rotton (Melb)

Breaking through it’s first year barrier with flying colors, we’d like to think that Launceston’s monthly DROP dubstep parties have set a new standard for bass parties in our little town and we’re about to continue that tradition with another heavy dubstep installment on June 6th at Alchemy.

Yeah, it’s bloody cold outside, but this month’s special guest is gonna have you reaching for an ice pack.

Melbourne dubstep DJ/producer BARON VON ROTTON (All City Bass) has played some of the biggest raves in Australia, alongside greats like Pendulum, Benga, Datsik, Reso, Skream and performing at Strawberry Fields and Rainbow Serpent festivals. If that’s not enough to wet your whistle, BVR’s remix of Smile On Impact’s ‘STOP!’ reached No.2 on Beatport Dubstep Charts, suffice it to say, this lad knows his stuff.

Opening the night shall be none other than local up-and-comer THAT GUY, who played an absolutely bonkers set alongside A13 at Drop #6 in October last year.

Drop #12 (1st Birthday Special) w/ Arctic (UK)

It’s been a full year since we begun knocking the cobwebs from your ears with bass tones fatter than your nan’s weed stash, at our monthly ‘Drop’ dubstep parties, and we’re still smokin’ up speakers with some of the finest dubstep DJs getting around.

This month, we’re celebrating this milestone with UK ex-pat, bass connoisseur and 50/50 (Melbourne’s biggest grime party) resident, ARCTIC – biting into Drop #12 with fangs cut on meaty UK grime and dubstep flavors. This lad is no slouch, having performed alongside huge acts such as Datsik, Skism and Foreign Beggars, this man knows his stuff.

On top of that, expect a full force assault of bass weaponry, with veteran Hobartian neck snapper ADAM TURNER and beat mechanic LIDS going back to back with a savage selection of dubstep and dnb sounds, along with Drop resident DJ AKOUO.

There’s gonna be giveaways and surprises all night long from 9pm til you can’t take it no more. FREE ENTRY @ ALCHEMY, LAUNCESTON.
